German top politician says “Berlin is turning into a chaos city” after mass violence during New Year’s Eve celebrations

According to Markus Söder, a German politician serving as Minister-President of Bavaria and as the Leader of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU), the German capital Berlin is turning into a “chaos city” after mass violence incidents during the celebrations of New Year’s Eve in the city.
On the night of New Year’s Day, police officers and firefighters were attacked in several German cities, including with firecrackers, rockets and even with hand guns. The attacks were particularly violent in some areas of Berlin. 355 criminal and administrative offense proceedings had been initiated, Welt reports.
After the chaotic scenes, several top politicians in the country are now blaming the red-green government of totally losing control over the countries security.
The CSU leader Markus Söder said: “Unfortunately, Berlin is developing into a chaos city – starting with the politics, which can neither organize elections nor guarantee the security of its citizens”.
Another critic of what he believes is the government’s incompetence in the matter, is the CDU leader Friedrich Merz. He told told the Münchner Merkur according to the Welt, that “the chaotic people, many of them with a ‘migration background’, challenge the state they despise with their riots.”
145 people were arrested due to the New Year’s Eve celebrations, just to get released shortly after the police investigations were completed. A total of 18 different nationalities were recorded among the arrested. 45 of the suspects have German nationality, 27 suspects are Afghan nationals and 21 are Syrians, the Welt reports.
